Gymnastics Basics – Backbend

Welcome to our blog!  We hope to see you back for more tips, tutorials, and other interesting content.

The backbend (AKA the bridge) is a fundamental skill in gymnastics. In fact, it’s a building block for more advanced skills to come. Check out our 45 second tutorial. Good luck! Backbend Tips:

  • Squeeze feet and legs together;
  • Straighten arms and legs
  • Ensure that your shoulders align directly above your hands. (Need help?  Walk your feet in, and then push your legs straight)

Warning:  This is gonna hurt!!  But as we often tell our gymnasts, “No pain, no gain!” Like us on Facebook and post a video of your backbend. Who knows… maybe we can give you some pointers!
